Shimla, Manali

You can take the morning Shatabdi Delhi to Kalka. It leaves around 7 am and arrives in Shimla around 11:50. Then you catch the toy train the rest of the way up. It leaves about 12:15 and arrives in Shimla around 5 o'clock. A very nice way to spend a day in India.

The Shatabdi leaves at around 730 AM in the morning, hit Chandigarh at 1045 or so and then Kalka at 1130.

shatabdi costs around 550 per head (The important stops are Soniapt , Panipat, Karnal (halfway point) , Ambala , Chandigarh and finally Kalka.)

You can travel by train upto Chandigarh or a little further upto Kiratpur. From there its by road all the way to Manali.

The Kalka-Shimla route is certainly beautiful, but no point in taking it if your trip dosen't include Shimla and destination is only Manali.

My main purpose was to enjoy the Kalka - Shimla route and then move on to Manali. How much time will this route take? How do we go to Manali from Shimla?

Also the other route - either Chandigarh or Kiratpur - how much time this route will take and what are the trains?

After a weeks stay in Manali. we plan to go to Vaishnodevi. How do we go there from Manali. Before reaching there if we can spend a few days in places that fall in this route, which would they be?

Cheers !

Sanjay
